The British Council UAE organised two well-attended
seminars on Education, Training & Qualifications in
the financial services and related businesses sector,
to coincide with the visit to the UAE in February of the Lord
Mayor of the City of London, Alderman John Stuttard, who
has chosen 'City of London – City of Learning' as the theme
for his Mayoral year.
Speaking at the opening of the Abu Dhabi seminar, the Lord
Mayor said: "My theme of the year is to showcase London as
a centre of excellence for financial services. The single most
important factor in London's success is skills."
The seminars, which were free of charge and open to all
financial services professionals, featured a line-up of senior
speakers from British organisations including the Securities
& Investment Institute, the Chartered Institute of Insurers,
and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. The programme
highlighted City-related UK professional institutes, business
schools and training providers who offer post-graduate and
professional qualifications in financial, maritime and business
services, both in the UK and overseas.
Sir Paul Judge, traveling with the visiting City delegation,
added: "We believe UK qualifications are the gold standard
around the world, and our business schools are world
renowned. More management students are educated in the
UK than the whole of Europe together."
The high level delegation from the City of London stressed
the City's role as the world's leading international financial,
maritime and business services centre. Banks, brokers,
securities firms and insurers, plus lawyers and accountants,
from around the world provide a massive pool of financial
liquidity and human expertise. The provision of leadingedge
education and training services in the UK has been
central to building London's global status today and is
key to the development of the professional competencies
that firms will need to sustain their position and secure
growth in the future. UK education and training services
open up an abundance of career opportunities in financial
and professional services in London, the UK, and the
international market.
Introducing the Abu Dhabi seminar, Paul Sellers, Country
Director UAE for the British Council, said: "The British

services. The UK financial services industry acts as a
benchmark for the global industry and qualifications are
constantly being refined to meet the needs of the market."
