Abu Dhabi is investing in long-term strategic development of sustainable future energy technologies, and a major part of that will be tackling the carbon emissions emanating from buildings. These are estimated at around 45% of all CO2 emissions. In a city like Abu Dhabi, the use of light and how to minimise heat gain are major building issues. Now Luminanz Ltd., a company based in Bolton, is helping to solve both problems, and is exhibiting at the World Future Energy Summit in January.

The world of light is changing rapidly and LEDs will soon provide the ambient light of the future for the domestic, commercial and industrial world. Luminanz LED technology will be at the forefront of this change. LEDs use only a fraction of the energy consumed by an ordinary light bulb. They radiate no heat, and what heat they do produce can be managed effectively. Thus they don’t add to the heat gain of a building in the same way as incandescent lamps and fluorescents. This can greatly reduce the power needed for cooling.

Despite the advantages LEDs have over conventional lighting, including energy efficiency, safety, environmental friendliness, long life, flexibility and low maintenance, there is a potential downside. Powerful LEDs can be uncomfortable to the human eye. The question is how to harness LEDs and utilise the light so that it is safe but still highly effective.

Luminanz Ltd has found several solutions. Their patented range of technologies allow light from LEDs to be controlled and emitted in a user-friendly way without loss of brightness. The company has developed product for major names such as McDonald’s, Tesco, Manchester Airport Group and the UK National Health Service. Their range of ambient lighting luminaires will challenge any current lighting system in terms of output, energy use and observer friendliness.

In addition, Luminanz technology allows LEDs to be the source of effective light for other applications, including floodlighting and stadium lighting, street lighting, signage, display, street furniture, highways and traffic use, architectural highlighting, safety lighting and off-grid use. All of these low energy applications can help Abu Dhabi become a global leader in sustainable new energy technologies.

Luminanz sees a huge future for its products in Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE and is actively seeking partners to help establish a base in the region.
